Automotive circuit tester AUTOOL BT160
AUTOOL BT160 is easy to use. After connecting it to the car battery, you can conduct positive or negative battery current to the probe by pressing the switch forward or backward. This unit comes with short-circuit protection, which can immediately check for poor grounding. It allows to track and locate short circuits.
Support 6~24V DC voltage test
AUTOOL BT160 is suitable for the diagnosis of all 6V to 24V DC vehicle electrical systems. It checks the continuity of switches, relays, as well as diodes, fuses, wires and circuits, which can help reduce diagnostic time for automotive electrical systems.
Clear guidance of indicator light
This power circuit probe kit helps quickly identify the positive and negative of cables and plugs. The red light indicates the positive, while the green light indicates the negative.
Handy & Easy Operation
All-in-one body with compact size is more ergonomic overall. The weight of the whole unit is less than 0.5KG, which is quite handy and great to use. The inspection cable is 4 meters in length and can cover from the vehicle’s engine to the car’s taillights, enabling easy inspection of the car’s circuit system.
Quick self-test
AUTOOL BT160 circuit tester can perform quick self-test on vehicle circuit system.
Test Procedure: Unfold the tool’s cable and clip the red clip to the positive end of the vehicle battery and the black clip to the negative end of the vehicle battery; press the front (-) of the power switch and the LED should glow red, press the rear (=) and the LED should glow green, indicating that the tool is now ready for use. If the LED does not come on, the clip may be poorly connected or the unit may be damaged.
Polarity test
The AUTOOL BT160 Circuit Tester can test for uncertain contact polarity in vehicle circuit system.
Test Procedure.
Unroll the unit’s cable and connect the red clip to the positive end of the vehicle battery and the black clip to the negative end of the vehicle battery; connect the probe tip to the positive (+) end and the LED should glow red; connect the probe tip to the negative (-) end and the LED should glow green.
Caution: Do not operate the unit in areas with combustible gases, dust, or explosive atmospheres; do not allow for use with AC power and DC circuits exceeding 24V.
Short circuit tracking and location
In most cases, a short circuit of a component or a momentary overload will cause a fuse or circuit to blow and a circuit breaker to trip. The AUTOOL BT160 circuit tester can search and locate the cause of a short circuit where it occurs.
Test Procedure:
Connect the red clip to the positive end of the vehicle battery and the black clip to the negative end of the vehicle battery; press the button to the “-” side, the LED should glow red and provide positive voltage. Remove the blown fuse from the fuse box and trace from the two terminals of the fuse socket. If the LED glows green and the buzzer sounds, it indicates a short circuit or overload component on this side, please note the color or identification code of this wire. Follow the wires along the harness as far as possible, find the color-coded wire in the harness and expose it, then cut the wire. Follow the direction of the shorted wire and repeat the process until you find the short.
Continuity test
AUTOOL BT160 circuit tester can carry out continuity test. Test Procedure: Unfold the tool’s cable and connect the red clip to the positive end of the vehicle battery and the black clip to the negative end of the vehicle battery; connect the auxiliary ground wire to one side of the test lead and the probe tip to the other side.f there is continuity in the vehicle circuit, the LED will glow green. If the LED does not glow, there is no continuity.
Jumper function
AUTOOL BT160 circuit tester is equipped with jumper function. The black battery clip of the tester and the auxiliary grounding wire clip are physically fixed and connected, user can disconnect from the original line connection (in case of control switch or open circuit), and use the line of the two black clips on the probe tester as the connection for testing and maintenance.
Check for poor ground contact
For some components, the negative terminal needs to be well grounded for high current flow and the AUTOOL BT160 circuit tester is the very right tool to test its grounding.
Test procedure: unfold the cable, connect the red clip to the positive end of the vehicle battery and the black clip to the negative end of the vehicle battery; press the button to the “-” side, the LED should glow red and provide positive voltage; then quickly get the probe tip as close as possible to the negative end of the component, at this point, the LED turns green and the buzzer sounds. This indicates a good ground. In case the ground is poor, the LED remains red and the buzzer fails to sound.
Test components in vehicle electrical systems
The AUTOOL BT160 circuit tester is capable of testing components in a vehicle’s electrical system.
Test procedure: unfold the cable, connect the red clip to the positive end of the vehicle battery and the black clip to the negative end of the vehicle battery; connect the auxiliary ground wire to the negative end of the component under test; press the button to the (-) side and the LED lights up red; activate the component by connecting the probe tip to the positive terminal to test the component. If the LED turns green, audible through the buzzer, stop the test and check if the component is defective or if the component is rated for higher current than this tester.
Caution: Do not operate the unit in areas with combustible gases, dust, or explosive atmospheres; do not allow for use with AC power and DC circuits exceeding 24V.
